北京故宮博物館が有する、中国の至宝、清明上河図について、その描かれている内容、絵が辿った数奇な運命、現在の開封の様子などを、ドキュメンタリータッチで紹介している。
それにしても、この絵にまつわるエピソードの数々に圧倒される。野嶋も語るように、この絵は、もはや絵という枠を超えてしまっている。
絵の作者も、実在が完全に明らかになっている訳ではなく、作成された時期や背景も、はっきりしていない。何人もの人に渡り、現在の北京故宮博物館に納められた経緯も、略奪といわれてもおかしくない。
描かれた当時は、決して一流とは見られていなかったが、その数奇な歴史を経て、今では誰もが認める国家の至宝になった。
野嶋がジャーナリストということもあり、内容は、学術的なものでなく、泥臭い感じがして交換が持てた。
清明上河図の中の、当時の開封の風景には、貴族や富豪でなく、農民や商人、それに町の住民達が描かれている。この本の雰囲気は、その絵の内容に、実に相応しい。
"Along the River During the Qingming Festival" is a one of best treasure of China. But the painting is mysterious. It is not clear yet who and when painted it. Many peoples has gotten it and has have to release it.
The painting was not seen as a great work at first but the situation has changed after many years. No nobody doubt it is one of best in China.
Nojima is journalist and the contents of this book is not like academic. But I liked it. the characters in the painting are not nobles and riches but ordinary peoples like farmers, merchants and citizens. This book is suitable for "Along the River During the Qingming Festival".
